About The Animal Farm Petting Zoo

Our Story

A Haven for Animals and Families Since 1981

The Animal Farm Petting Zoo is Long Island's original family petting zoo, proudly operated by the Long Island Zoological Society—a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in Manorville, New York.

Founded in 1981, we've been dedicated to providing care, shelter, and second chances for homeless, unwanted, abused, and abandoned animals for over four decades. Unlike many shelters that focus solely on cats and dogs, our rescue program welcomes a wide variety of creatures: farm animals, birds, reptiles, exotics, and more. Most of the hundreds of animals you see in our park today arrived through this very program, where they receive loving care in thoughtfully built habitats across our beautiful 10-acre property.

Supported entirely by visitor admissions, generous donations, volunteers, exhibit sponsors, and community support, we continue this important work without any government funding. Every visit and contribution directly helps us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome where possible—creating a sustainable cycle of compassion.
